Nicholas “Nicho” Ngouan is a junior at Owasso High School who plays basketball for the Rams. He fell in love with the sport at the young age of six years old after seeing someone close to him hit the court. “What got me into was my dad, I always used to watch him play and every time I did it would make me want to do the same thing he did,” said Ngouan.
Ngouan’s father has been a hugely important person in his life, on and off the court. Ngouan knows that it is highly important to have good character and treat others with respect. He has seen this firsthand from his father, whose example motivates him to be his best. “My role model definitely has to be my dad, he shows me how to be a good person towards others and his work ethic is outstanding,” he said. “What motivates me to be my best has to be my dad and my coaches – they push me hard every day to be the best I can be.” Ngouan holds his teammates in very high regard as well.
“I think the best part about playing high school sports has to be the friendships you build with your team,” he said. “Me and my teammates are like brothers, and I can go to them for anything.” Ngouan says he doesn’t care who the opponent is they are playing, every game is usually competitive and exciting. He has this season and one more ahead of him playing for the Rams, but he already has one big moment to look back on.
“My favorite memory for basketball has to be winning state with my teammates – it was one of the best feelings,” he said. Ngouan is a dedicated student as well, taking advanced classes at Owasso and concurrent enrollment classes at Tulsa Community College. After high school he plans to continue his
education and become a mechanical engineer.
