As the days get shorter and cooler, most sports get moved indoors, and the cheerleaders get ready to do bring energy to sports fans. For Reece Cunningham, a senior cheerleader for Owasso, that energy is building.
“This season is going great for OVC,” Cunningham said. “We have been working hard this season to be the best we can be in all aspects. Not only do we focus on our state routines, but we also make time for sidelines, pep rallies, and anything that is thrown at us. We have won five state titles in the past four years, two competitive and two game day. We were also grand champions at nationals and stunt state champions in 2019. All of this would not be possible without our incredible bond,” Cunningham continued. “Our team is big about working together inside and outside the cheer gym. We keep a positive mindset throughout our practices and constantly build each other up. Owasso varsity cheer is truly a family and I would do anything for my teammates and coaches.”
Considering this being her last season at Owasso, Cunningham said she was hoping to leave a legacy of being a leader for the Rams.
“As a senior and as a captain I know the younger girls and boys on the team are looking up to me,” she said. “I try to lead by example at all times. On our team we have bigs and littles. Each senior is a big and has one or two littles. I have two littles and I make sure to help them out when they need it. I take them places, bring them food, and encourage them in practices. Of course, I am there for all of the littles on the team but each big makes sure to take care of their little.”
