Owasso’s Seldon Stover – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Army National Guard

Seldon Stover is a freshman at Owasso High School, where she starts on the Lady Rams basketball squad. Stover is one of the primary ball handlers at the guard position, averaging seven points, five rebounds, two assists, and 1.5 steals in her first season. Stover had her coming out party against No. 16 Muskogee when the freshman led the Lady Rams with 24 points in a 67-50 victory against the Lady Roughers.

“[Seldon] is a player who is very athletic, and she is great at getting to the rim,” coach Tobey Nightingale said. “She does a great job of getting her teammates involved and creating on the offensive end.”

“One of the things she does best is her ability to rebound on the offensive end,” she continued. “Not only was she important to us on the offensive end of the floor, but this year, she also had to step up and be a tough defensive player for us most nights guarding the other team’s best player.”

Stover also competes on the Owasso track and field team, where she runs in the 100m and 200m dash. Outside of athletics, Stover is involved in NHS.

Stover is also heavily involved in her church, working with fellow youth leaders on community service projects and helping with the preschool program.

“I’ve delivered and donated mattresses through my church,” Stover said. “And I help with the preschool kids with their coloring and reading projects.”

Stover will return to the court next season as one of two underclassmen in the starting lineup. Stover’s stepped up as a youth leader in her community, and now she’s ready to lead Owasso on the court throughout her sophomore season.

“[Seldon] is a hardworking young leader who pushes her teammates in practice to be better,” Nightingale said. “She’s a great person, teammate, and is so much fun to be around. I’m thankful to have her in our program and to have the opportunity to coach her.”
